Recommended Foods to Eat Before, After and During Vaccination
Hello FitFam,
Hope you all are safe and healthy.
As India welcomes its third vaccine drive for everyone above the age of 18, it’s time to equip
yourself with vital information. After taking the vaccine, there are changes you will witness
symptoms such as body ache, fever or fatigue. These symptoms aren’t something you should
be tensed about. They will heal in time. That being said, following certain health measures can
help your body cope better with the medication. To help you in these trying times, I have
curated a list of recommended foods that you can refer to. It is advisable to consume these
before, after and on the day of vaccination.
Carbohydrates: It’s time you do not cut carbs but rather load up on them. Many healthy
carb-rich foods yield high nutrition. Oatmeal is one of the healthiest whole grains you can
consume. Raw oats have about 66% carbs and 11% fibre. They tend to be a rich source of
minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Besides, you can also consume beetroot. Raw or cooked
beets contain about 8-10% of carbs mainly from their sugar or fibre content. Beets are also
enriched with minerals, antioxidants, plant compounds and vitamins. Apart from these, you can
also consume other carb-rich foods such as whole wheat, barley, beans etc.
Protein: Feed your body enough protein so it can replenish itself. Greek yoghurt, also known as
strained yoghurt is a rich source of protein. Every 170 grams container has about 17 grams of
protein and only 100 calories. It is advisable to purchase greek yoghurt with no added sugar.
Also, the quantity of protein can vary from brand to brand. Check the nutritional value on the
packaging before purchase. Whole eggs are also a rich source of protein. Being one of the
most nutritious foods, it is filled with minerals, vitamins, healthy fats, antioxidants etc. One big
egg contains about 6 grams of protein. Besides, a healthy nut that also makes for protein food
is almonds. Every 1/4th cup (35 grams) of almonds contains about 7 grams of protein.
Besides eating enough proteins and carbs ensure you make your plate greener. Fill it up with
green leafy vegetables that provide your body with good nutrition. Let’s all take good care of
our health for ourselves for a healthier tomorrow. We are in this together. So eat well, think
positive and go get yourself vaccinated soon.
